Fed. Poly Nekede Owerri Launches Smart Campus project Amidst Her 20th Convocation Ceremony
The Smart Campus Launching held at the school 1000 Capacity Auditorium which was graced by principal officers and students on Tuesday 3rd December, 2019 kick-started the preliminary programmes of FPNO 20th Convocation Ceremony running till Thursday 5th of December, 2019.
At the event, the Smart Campus Project was launched to commence its implementation henceforth. The new School Management led by the Rector; Engr. Dr. Michael C. Arimanwa has worked relentlessly to ensure that the new academic session of 2019/2020 will have all processing involving staff fully automated rather than routine outdated manual working method.
The Rector made it clear at the programme that our modern society has grown beyond processing documents manually. According to him, this modern society is computerized, owing to that the best Polytechnic in Nigeria is expected be the leading light, therefore, Smart Campus policy is here to stay. it was stated that there shall be no manual process of doing business in the Polytechnic.
As such, both new and old Students and Lecturers alike will have official G-mail account that will enable the online transactions. ” The FPNO Smart Campus is an effective Management solution designed to to manage all the institutions constituents including Applicant, Students, faculties, Alumni…,” Engr. Mrs. Mary Nwakamma, The acting Head, Information, Communication Technology (ICT) said in her welcome address
With the effect of this Smart Campus Policy, student’s screening can be done online even without the physical presence of the person in question. Checking of school timetables, semester results and course registration will be done only on School Portal as developed by ICT Directorate.
It was said that the School portal and official website which is www.fedpolynekede.edu.ng will assign new student X-ray centers automatically and results uploaded for medical centre to review. It will also generate Matriculation number for new students. Hence, biometric capture for ID will be done only on MIS of the School.
The implementation of this Smart Campus Policy will ensure that Semester GNS and General Maths Examination will be done using Computer Base Testing (CBT). In the same vein, Student Union Government (SUG) and EPSA election will be conducted by Electronic Voting (E-voting). This will also ensure students safety and security as the installed Wi-Fi enabled IP cameras within strategic places are there for surveillance.
In the bid to get it closer to all for easy access, The ICT Directorate made it palatable for Lecturers, students amongst others persons in the school by developing a mobile App. Therefore everyone can download the FPNO Smart mobile App on Google Play Store for (Adriod Devices) or Apple App Store for (IOS Devices). Hence, the school portal and the free Wi-Fi can only be accessible to students who has paid their school.
Other principal officers present include the School Deputy Rectors, the Bursar, the Poly Librarian, all Deans, all Academic HODs, all Deputy Registrar, SUG President, all Departmental Students Association Presidents among others.
